A Swedish event for sustainable fashion in New York
On the 18th-19th of September a knowledge event will take place on Parsons The New School for Design in New York under the headline Design Intelligence; FASHION. During two days 35 work shops and 15 lectures will be given on the topic how sustainable design can strengthen the fashion industry. The objective is to create new collaborations between Sweden and America and to increase the exchange of knowledge within the industry.
Design has been one of the main ingredients throughout the history of industrialization and Swedish innovation is an important means of competition in an international context both in design and fashion. The topic Design Intelligence;FASHION puts focus on different parts of the innovation process both from a sustainable, material and production view point.
The project is a collaboration between the Swedish Institute (SI), Designboost, Swedish Trade Council, Parsons The New School for Design, Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, the Consulate General of Sweden in New York, Svensk Form and a number of Swedish and international fashion labels.
– A more open and integrated world economy increases the prospects as well as the competition for Swedish companies. The objective of this event is to strengthen the idea of Sweden as an innovative design nation, to increase the possibilities of growth and facilitate for companies to act on the global market. Quoted by Annika Rembe, director-general of the SI and together with Designboost the initiator of this event.
One hundred specially invited guests will during the first day of the event participate in work shops regarding sustainable fashion and will on the second day be given, along with the public, the opportunity to take part in seminars on these topics.
– A greater knowledge of sustainable fashion design increases opportunities for consumers to make good choices and with the right view on design we can create social, economical and environmentally sustainable changes – as well as increase the competitiveness of our industries – David Carlson of Designboost.
